Diffusion of Innovations and Digital Leadership Share your key ideas about how you can address Digital Leadership by utilising digital channels for external communication and branding #digitalleader #HawkesBay We will communicate with our main stakeholders which are our parents through Mail Chimp which we use to share our weekly newsletter. We will have a section which we will name #Tech Talk We will discuss new technologies and ideas such as Austins Butterflies Feedback Key Competencies Workspace Read Theory Digital Citizenship Blogs 3D Printer Coding Robotics We have started the above. In our latest newsletter we included the new branding We added some information about the role of feedback in the classroom and a link to Austins Butterfly. Consider how you might be able to identify where individual members of your various stakeholder groups sit on the innovation adoption curve. Thinking about our major stakeholders - Rhys - early adopter, Jenny - early m

Design Thinking in the Classroom Watch the video "Design Thinking 101" and make notes on the role of feedback in each stage of the process. Complete a Design Thinking challenge Consider ways in which design thinking can be used to enhance students' 'real-world problem solving' abilities. In class I want to get maths students to explain concepts such as factors, multiples and primes as well as squared and cubed numbers. They need to create something to teach other students. My students could use a design thinking model to work out the best way to teach others these concepts.  We could also use the design thinking model during our passion project time. I wonder if the design thinking model would work for our Student Volunteer Army project that we are about to start...

Mind Lab - Week 7 - Leadership

Flipped preparation (required): Read the short extract from Alma Harris' article, a section titled 'Teacher Leadership and Distributed Leadership' (Leadership Week 7 Media). To prepare for the class session, think about how/if distributed leadership is enacted in your school. Possibly the Think Tanks - although they have a leader, there are representatives from across the school who are at the very least responsible for feeding back to the teams and taking their concerns(?) to the Think Tank meetings. There needs to be the culture where anyone could take up the leadership of anything they feel the need to progress with, or they feel they have expertise in, without being questioned - why are you doing it? etc . Wouldn’t it be great if everyone we worked with felt that they wanted to put the time and effort into our organisation!! We could all share the responsibility instead of it being on any one person's shoulders all of the time. Problem comes when something goes

Reverse Time Capsule “What if we were to receive a time capsule not from the past, but from the future?” (Coupland, 1995) What would you put into a reverse time capsule to send back 20 years? What current artifacts might surprise the citizens of 1998 the most? Share on your location’s Padlet: Google Expeditions Google Expeditions, which you can use with Cardboard, is a virtual reality teaching tool that lets you lead or join immersive virtual trips all over the world — get up close with historical landmarks, dive underwater with sharks, even visit outer space! What value could Google Expeditions add to teaching and learning - could allow us to ‘visit’ other places - makes children excited about learning. - think about the SAMR model and Blooms taxonomy. Would be good to have a virtual tour of the MTG to revisit after our actual visit. To remember and find out new information. Mind Lab - Week 6 - Leadership - Leadership Theories, Styles and Attributes

Image
Leadership Leadership Theories, Styles and Attributes This week we introduce a number of leadership theories. A theory is something that has been put forward as a way of analysing leadership, and should therefore be empirically testable, or at least is suggested on the basis of evidence. A style is much more personal. It is the way that people act out their leadership roles. In applying a particular theory of leadership, a number of leadership styles might be applied. Attributes are personal characteristics and skills that can assist someone to be an effective leader.  The change initiative for our Leadership 1 assignment will be the migration to GAFE. My initial thoughts regarding the leadership theories and styles involved is shown in the images below.     Early leadership theories  traditional, bureaucratic and charismatic. Now more leadership theories include: Transactional Transformational Pedagogical Distributed Servant (Agile) Tū Ranga

Mind Lab - Week 6 - Digital - 3D Modelling and Printing

3D Modelling Suggest ways in which 3D printing technologies might change educational practice. I if our students are to make widespread use of 3D printing technologies when older then they need to be developing many skills today - which can be developed through coding and 3DS printing in class. Creating not consuming Empowering students - let them express themselves T ake risks and learn to fail Build self-confidence Inclusive Develops critical thinking skills Teamwork and collaboration skills Topology Sculpting A type of 3D modelling that is like sculpting clay. SculptGL lets you do this in the browser http://stephaneginier.com/sculptgl/ I have been using this in class and the children love it. I took off the symmetry setting - and regretted it - you get a much better result if you leave it on! Tinkercad is also something the children really enjoy. They have been through the tutorials and I have set the challenge of modelling s
